Places to Visit
The attraction of this part of Yorkshire lies not only in its beautiful countryside but also in its wealth of places to visit. There are opportunities in the area to take part in a wide range of activities and sites to see such as; fishing, shopping, bowling, golf, adventure parks, castles, abbeys and stately homes.
Sheriff Hutton is a lovely village to visit, with a fantastic pub, The Highwayman Inn, a country pub with a warm welcome, serving delicious homemade food using local produce. Or if you fancy something quick, easy, to eat in the caravan or tent, why not get your food delivered using the local takeaway Pizza World. Fish and Chips are a winner most families, and a great British Meal, so why not try the award winning Thompsons Fish Restaurant and Takeaway on Malton Road.
Steeped in History, with its cobbled streets, and beautiful old buildings, York is a must see. With attractions such as the York Dungeon, York Railway Museum, Castle Museum, Jorvik Centre and York Minister, it is sure to be a day that won’t be forgotten. The Shambles are such an iconic feature of York, leading it to be well-known all over the Country. Filled with numerous shops, the market, cafes, restaurants, and pubs serving lunch and evening meals, it is easy to spend the day there.
On the outskirts of York you have Monks Cross Shopping Centre, The Designer Outlet and Clifton Moor, which offers more shopping and family entertainment. Clifton Moor is home to a cinema and a bowling complex, as well as restaurants, takeaways and pubs.
For those wet days, when walking across the North Yorkshire Moors, playing in the park or shopping in York aren’t ideal, there are plenty of indoor activities. There are a number of Indoor Play Parks such as Wacky Warehouse, Creepy Crawlies, The Farmers Cart and Play Dale Farm. The Sites are filled with numerous activities to keep the children entertained and refreshments on site. Or perhaps you don’t mind water, in which case you and your family would love to visit Water World not far from York Meadows. There are some great fun parks to visit like Flamingo Land, and Lightwater Valley.
There are golf greens surrounding the park such as Sandburn Hall, which offers other activities also, York Golf Club, Fulford Golf Club, Easingwold Golf Club and Ampleforth Golf Club. Fishing is also a popular sport and can be done locally at Pottery Pond, Birkdale Farm, and Brickyard Farm Lakes.
